Egypt is strengthening its artificial intelligence ambitions with the launch of the country’s first national AI factory, a new infrastructure initiative designed to support local development and deployment of AI applications.
The facility is being developed through a strategic partnership between Vodafone Business and Cassava Technologies, with the two companies aiming to establish advanced AI computing capabilities that can serve government institutions, businesses and other organisations within Egypt.
The initiative is intended to give organisations access to high-performance computing while allowing data to be hosted and processed locally. The approach is expected to strengthen data protection and cybersecurity while giving Egyptian institutions greater control over sensitive information.
The infrastructure will use NVIDIA accelerated computing technologies and provide GPU-as-a-Service, allowing organisations to access the processing capacity required to train and run AI systems without having to build their own large-scale computing environments.
Mahmoud El-Khatib, Vice President of Enterprise Business at Vodafone Egypt, said the project represents an important stage in the company’s technology investment strategy.
“Our partnership with Cassava Technologies marks a pivotal step in Vodafone Egypt’s technology journey and reflects our continued commitment to investing in digital infrastructure that enhances Egypt’s readiness for advanced technologies.”
He added that the partnership would support sovereign AI capabilities through locally hosted technologies while helping organisations access advanced computing more efficiently.
For Cassava Technologies, the project is also positioned as part of a broader effort to strengthen Africa’s ability to develop and operate advanced technologies locally.
“For Cassava, contributing to building Egypt’s AI ecosystem is an act of empowerment, not just a technological milestone. We are ensuring that African businesses aren’t just consumers of global tech—they are the architects of it,” said Ahmed El Beheiry, Group Chief Technology & AI Officer and CEO of Cassava AI.
The partnership will also provide access to training and enablement programmes linked to the NVIDIA ecosystem, supporting organisations seeking to develop the skills required to deploy and manage AI systems. Beyond computing capacity, the partners expect the project to help attract technology investment, support new digital businesses and create employment opportunities in AI and related fields.
The factory forms part of Egypt’s broader push to establish itself as a regional centre for artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure. The country’s national AI strategy already places emphasis on infrastructure, technology, data, talent and the development of an AI ecosystem.
With local computing and data-hosting capabilities expanding, Egypt is seeking to reduce reliance on overseas infrastructure while creating the foundations for wider adoption of AI across its economy.
